Dustin and Mike celebrate FYC's landmark 50th episode with yet another anniversary, this time with Steven Spielberg's first contact classic, Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The film, which turns 40 this month, was incredibly well received back in '77 and has been a film that the filmmaker has revisited and recut more than once! As is our tradition, we watched the original theatrical cut of the film which provoked some lively discussion at the roundtable and surprised both of us with how we ultimately judged it. Curious? Check out the episode to find out if Close Encounters is worthy of masterpiece status and to hear Dustin name drop M. Night Shyamalan, and not for the reasons you would expect.
